Local Rules

Last updated 25th October 2009

Local Rules are as set out on the back of the score card.

Additional local Rule as agreed by the Board on 11th August 2009.

8. For all play at this course a player may obtain distance information by using a device that
measures distance only. If a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or
measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g. gradient, windspeed, temperature etc), the
player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such
additional function is actually used.

Temporary Local Rules

These Temporary Local Rules are currently in effect and will remain so until changed or removed. Where
a Temporary Local Rule is in contradiction of a published Local Rule, the Temporary Rule takes
precedence. The latest changes are in bold.
Out of Bounds - (Rule 27)
a) Beyond any wall, fence or white stakes defining the boundary of the course.
b) On or beyond the flower pots, gravel strip and paved area behind the 18th green and the putting
green.
The newly planted heather on the 5th, 12th and 18th holes and the areas from where the heather has been
scraped to encourage regeneration is ‘Ground Under Repair' from which play is prohibited. If a player's
ball lies in the area, or if it interferes with the player's stance or the area of his intended swing, the player
MUST take relief under Rule 25.1.

Extra Winter Holes

The extra holes cut at the front of the greens are there to allow the pin positions to be
moved in the event of frost. When they are not in use they are ‘Immovable
Obstructions and rule 24-2 applies.

WINTER RULES - Preferred Lies
apply until further notice.

A ball lying on a closely mown area through the green may be lifted without penalty
cleaned. Before lifting the ball the player must mark its position. Having lifted the
ball he must place it on a spot within six inches and not nearer the hole than where it
originally lay, that is not in a hazard and not on a putting green.
A player may place his ball only once, and it is in play when it has been placed (Rule
20-4). If the ball fails to come to rest on the spot on which it is placed, Rule 20-3d
applies. If the ball when placed comes to rest on the spot on which it is placed and it
subsequently moves, there is no penalty and the ball must be played as it lies, unless
the provisions of any other Rule apply.
‘If the player fails to mark the position of the ball before lifting it or moves the ball in
any other manner, such as rolling it with a club, he incurs a penalty of one stroke.'

Temporary Conditions - Mud, Extreme Wetness, Poor
Conditions and Protection of the Course.

Relief for Embedded Ball; Cleaning Ball
Through the green a ball that is embedded in its own pitch mark in the ground, other
than sand, may be lifted without penalty, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to
where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of
the course through the green.
Exception: A player may not obtain relief under this Local Rule if it is clearly
unreasonable for him to make a stroke because of interference by anything other than
the condition covered by this Local Rule.

‘PENALTY FOR BREACH OF LOCAL RULE - Match play - loss of Hole; Stroke Play - two strokes.'
